An
integral part of the school since its move to the McKay Avenue site
has been the annual exchange with Cheltenham Secondary College, a Melbourne
high school.
Originally
the brain-child of P.E. teacher Jeff Nicholas at Gilles Plains High
School, and his cousin Ross Smith at Cheltenham High School, the exchange
began in 1965. There were 12 events in the first exchange, which was
held in Melbourne and every alternatve year in Adelaide. Gilles Plains
High School won the first exchange. Currently, there are 27 events contested:
Badminton
Basketball
Captain's Games
Chess
Debating
Dramatic Games
Football
Hockey
Indoor Cricket

In 2008, 82 WGVC students will travel on 2 buses to Melbourne for the 5 day Exchange, from Monday June 23rd to Friday June 27th.
The
2 colleges believe this exchange is the longest running of its kind
in the Southern Hemisphere. Certainly it builds life-long friendships and wonderful memories. 2008 will be the 44th Exchange between the schools.
In 2007, WGVC won Dramatic Games for the first time ever and Girls Soccer. Our strength in cricket is now under attack though our increasing football prowess worried the Victorians last year.
This year will see two very determined squads desperate to win each of the available points.
