Windsor
Gardens Vocational College, which incorporates the Windsor Gardens Centre
for Hearing Impaired, is one of the most dynamic learning centres in
the state. We are a medium size secondary school with a very strong
sense of community. Students work in small Care Groups which meet daily
and then once a week for a longer session. This means the teacher gets
to know each student well, monitoring progress across all of their subjects,
their involvement in college life generally as well as their general
well-being.
Windsor
Gardens offers a very diverse curriculum and has successfully developed
students who know what they want in their future and how to go about
achieving it. We approach education with the aim of motivating and inspiring
young people to pursue actively their chosen education, training and
employment pathways. Firstly, we support students to explore what they
want in their future, then try it out and then do all the preparation
that will lead them into their post-secondary school lives with success
and purpose. Accordingly, we offer a range of vocational courses alongside
academic courses all designed to ensure students develop practical,
work-based understandings alongside the acquisition of new skills and
knowledge.
Our
students' post-school destinations are our best advertisement - students
from Windsor Gardens Vocational College are in apprenticeships, are
at University, are in employment, are at TAFE or undertaking further
training. Our students are succeeding and in many different ways.
The
college has adopted a set of values that underpins all our work. These
are RESPECT, TRUST and TEAMWORK. The students, families and staff selected
these from a very long list of suggestions. We have further examined
what they mean in practice and use them as part of our daily life.
Students
of the college receive well-deserved praise for the work they do and
the way they behave - whether it is the Music students as they perform
for local community groups, students visiting work places as part of
their studies, students on excursions, students preparing and serving
food in our café, students supporting each other to achieve.
Our college is a friendly place where students and staff know each other
well, where the communication with parents/caregivers is strong and
where we join together to achieve the best outcomes for our students.
